Olypmics knitting

Anyone else planning to knit through the Olympics?

My Ravelry group is… I am planning to restart my Dew Drops Shawl

2014 start update…..

24 Jan

Here I sit, catching up on podcasts, wearing 3 knit items (only one by me, thanks Dee! and swap partner from winter of 2010!) as it is cold in Florida today.

This week we have had lows in the 30’s and highs in the 50’s. I realize that this is NOTHING compared to much of the rest of the country, but I am feeling the cold this year. (I’m sure it is the weight loss I incurred this past year. Still on the trail downward and hoping to get closer to goal by April – for anniversary trip with my darling)

I have recently finished a number of smaller items (see my Rav page for the latest) and am finishing up one more WIP today.

I have decided 2014 is going to be Stash busting year – and have chosen to work through at least 20 skeins – I have lots of stash, much of which was donated and I need to decide what to do with… I know I have a bag of tangled mess that I am debating untangling…. Or perhaps it is not worth it… This remains to be seen.

I have purchased 2 new skeins – I had a Gift Certificate for my LYS that was set to expire within the next month, so I dropped by on MLK day, since I had the day off and hubby did not. I got a lovely skein of Bobboli Lace that I am planning for a shawl and some sock yarn in not wool that felt wonderful knit up. I am looking forward to both – but am going to make myself work though some of the stash skeins first. (Please drop by Rav to see – my computer is being wonky and I can’t get pix in. I have been using Yarma to use my iPhone pix loaded into Ravelry directly)

I hope to have better access and to be able to post pictures soon, which will allow me to keep you better updated!  Toodles!

I am making a new toy for one of my nephews…  A turtle who has outfits…

All together now.  awwwwww……

Here is the current progress.

Seaweed mitts

14 Jun

Here are the start of the mitts I mentioned last post.

They are made with Serenity Sock in Surf.  The pattern I am using is Hand Charmer.  The button holes are repeated in such a way that it forms a lace-ish design along one edge .  You can flip the holey area toward your fingers or toward your wrist.  Both ways are cute.

Are you working on anything new?

Nerd Wars 5

14 Jun

I am participating in Nerd Wars again.  I am planning myself out a bit better then last time, so I am contributing more.

So far I have completed 3 items.

Now I am working on a pair of fingerless mits.  I am calling them Seaweed mitts, the color and the pattern kinda scream “sea” to me.

Anyone else participating?  What team are you on?

The Glass Slipper returns

18 May

OK, so I am still working on the sock.  Yes, the first of the pair.  Hush!

I have turned the heel, and am starting the foot decrease design (for any of us that have also seen or knit this pattern).

(Please excuse my unpainted toes, Dr wants me to air the nails a bit….)

Soon I should have a sock!  And need to knit the other one!

Glass Slippers

4 May

Have been ripped out and restarted.

The first attempt was turning out WAY too big.

Darn it!

So I am now on the cuff again, and will post something once it looks more like a sock and not just a blue circle.

Crafting Balance
Are you a knitter or a crocheter, or are you a bit of both?

When asked what I am doing, when crafting in public (which I do a lot), the answer is always knitting.  Some people confuse it with crochet, or macrame (yep, got that once.  Confused me terribly).  I can understand, if you don’t do it, it may not be clear.

Every once in a while I come across a project that I REALLY want to try, and sometimes, that project is crochet.

I am a crochet virgin.  I have a few hooks, but for rescuing stitches and weaving ends.

I tell myself I will learn crochet.  I was even gifted a “teach yourself to crochet” kit by one of my fellow knitters.    I have wonderful intentions, but seem to get distracted by knitting projects and works in process that are waiting for me.

I am teaching myself (again) how to sew (there are some knitting projects that would benefit from a nice lining), but that is also being back burnered in favor of a knitted sock in progress or a sweater I am going to start.

If nothing else, I need to learn crochet for the bind offs and edging that is possible with those little hooks!

Knitting and Crochet Blog Week 2012! Day 6 Skills KCBWDAY6

Improving Your Skillset

Each year I set my intentions to try something new before the end of December.

For 2011, I was planning to try a sock, two at a time, toe up, of which I started, got about halfway through, realized it was WAY big, ripped it out and started over.  Yeah.  I am still sort-of-actively working on that as well as another sock, similar problem.

For 2012 I would like to knit a sweater (got the yarn all ready to go!) and try something with beads.

As I go on, I see great projects and knitted things that I want, so I want to make them, this leads be, inevitably toward something new to learn.  Gone is the girl who only knit scarves, even though she lives in FL and has very little use for them on a normal day, gone is the acrylic only user because she was afraid of felting something (which I have now done, on purpose, and was lovely!)

I will continue to cast on new, bolder projects and reach beyond my current abilities to be a better, stronger knitter.

How about you, do you have the learning bug?
